2012 Goals

Every year I make a goal to read x amount of books. Last year I went off the deep end with 50; I lost count but I can guarantee I didn't read that many. I love to read by never take the time, outside of the 15-20 minutes before I go to bed, which I don't really count because I fall asleep and have to reread most of what I already read. Vicious cycle really.  So, this year, I am setting a more specific goal, a list of 15 titles I want to read in 2012. 15 is pretty realistic, and I am almost done with the first one of the list. And, I already own nearly all of the books, so I don't have to go find them to read them. Here's the list. If you have any suggestions of a good read to add, let me know.
  1. A Lion Among Men by Gregory Maguire (the third in the Wicked series)
  2. Out of Oz by Gregory Maguire (the final book in the Wicked series)
  3. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame Smith
  4. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
  5. The Help
  6. Still Alice by Lisa Genova
  7. Hey Day by Kurt Anderson
  8. The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
  9. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Laarson
  10. 11/22/63 by Stephen King
  11. Bossypants by Tina Fey
  12. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver
  13. The Plot Against America by Philip Roth
  14. WAS by Geoff Ryman
  15. A Widow for One Year by John Irving
So, thoughts? Comments? Jokes? Wish me luck!  I'll also try and comment on the books as I finish them, in case you're interested in reading something off the list as well.

Bossypants was hilarious.
The Help was phenomenal.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was hard to get into at first, but push through the first 100 pages, and I promise, it gets amazing. If you need, I have all three of those books & can drop them off the next time I'm in Lincoln.
I don't know how many books I read last year either - I wish I would've written them all down.
I assume that you liked the Wicked Series? I'm looking for another series, but haven't heard of any that I haven't already read. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for more suggestions :)
Happy Reading!

Thanks! I have the first book in the series, if I make it through, which probably won't be until March-ish, I could exchange when we see Hunger Games!
I haven't heard of any other good series either :(

Groundhog's Day

So, welcome to 2013!  January was full of busy-ness in the Kant home, what with potty training in full effect, work being super busy and, well, I'm just really tired.  Plus we moved out office into the basement and let's face it, out of sight, out of mind.  And despite the ipad and iphone within arm's reach, I can't figure out how to post from the damned things, so there you have it.  Like I said, January went by in a blur, but luckily the groundog (and more importantly, my mom, whose birthday is also today) didn't see their shadows, so yay! 6 weeks until Spring.  Harper has begun potty training (well, has been in panties full time since late December) and is doing great with the potty piece of it.  The pooping? Not so much, and what sucks is that she really couldn't care less when she drops one in her panties...this mom, however, could do without shaking poop out of panties multiple times a week. Our only saving grace is that she goes to the same place ...

GO BIG RED!

5.20.14

It feels like so much has happened since my last post.  We survived going back to work and daycare, although I am fairly certain at least one of us has been sick with a cold, flu or both every day since then. Glad to see this warm weather, and hope it will sweep these germs away! We had Booker's baptism the weekend before I returned to work.  It was nice to see all the family together, and kind of relax before having to return to the real world.  Booker did pretty good during the ceremony; I was nervous and it was hot...bad combination in my tan dress lol.  Erich was nice enough to point out how "hot" I looked.  Made me think of our wedding ceremony, and how I felt the same way. We had a nice Easter weekend.  We dyed egg with my family and had a mini egg hunt with Harper and her cousins.  Then on Sunday the Easter Bunny came! He was so silly, he hid all the eggs we dyed in the living room.  Harper was very concerned ...
